摘要
Prestressed concrete bridges make up a large portion of bridges on the German Highways. The application of this type of structures showed in time some typical damage and triggered then a start of research projects. This paper aims at providing a brief outline of the prestressed concrete historical development in bridge engineering. Moreover, it presents the research results for the encountered damage and technical difficulties. These provide the foundation for the innovations of the past two decades in prestressed concrete bridges and especially with regard to improving the robustness and durability of these structures.
