摘要
Representative of eight morphotypes of the Lake Tana barbel were studied. Estimates of 14 measurements of the skull subjected to principal component analysis formed scatterplots in the space of PC1 and PC2, depicting ontogenetic pathways of individuals in the given character space (''ontogenetic channels''). The ontogenetic channels of ''acute'' and ''big mouth big-eye'' are separated from those of other morphotypes already in the first year of fish life. The channel of,,big mouth-small eye'' is superimposed with that of ''big mouth-big eye''. ''White hunch'', ''dark'', ''barbel'' and ''carplike'' derive from ''intermedius'' late in ontogeny in age interval 3 - 6 years.
