摘要
Lifetimes have been measured of the low- and intermediate-spins states in Pt-188 nucleus using the recoil distance Doppler shift technique at IUAC, Delhi. The nuclear states of interest were populated via Yb-174 (O-18, 4n)Pt-188 reaction at a beam energy of 79 MeV provided by 15 UD Pelletron accelerator. The extracted B (E2) values show an increase up to 4(+) state and then a near constant behavior with spin along yrast band, indicating change of the nuclear shape in Pt-188 at low spins. The average absolute beta(2) = 0.20 (3) obtained from measured B (E2) values matches well the values predicted by CHFB and IBM calculations for oblate (beta(2) similar to -0.19) and prolate (beta(2) similar to 0.22) shapes.
