Time-limited brief therapy: The state of practice

This article is written to provide an overview of the past and present foundation for the use of time-limited brief therapy. General format, as well as, a procedural review for conducting empirically based brief therapy are presented. Three specific models (Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Cognitive-Behavioral and Solution-Oriented) which utilize a brief time-limited Focus are reviewed. The recommendation for use of these models as methods of brief time-limited intervention is encouraged as a response to managed care practice guidelines.
