A cost-effective electronic lighting driver with high-power-factor and soft-switching for supplying an LED street-light lamp

摘要
As a street-lighting source, LED has the characteristics of energy saving and environmental protection and it plays an important role in replacing traditional high-energy-consumption high-pressure mercury lamps. This paper designs and accomplishes a cost-effective LED driver featuring high-power-factor and soft-switching for use in energy-efficient streetlights. The LED driver proposed in this paper merges a totem-pole bridgeless boost (TPBB) converter with power-factor correction (PFC) and a half-bridge series-resonant (HBSR) converter with a bridge rectifier into a single-stage power-conversion circuit. Besides, the presented LED driver attains high power-factor of the utility-line source and an advantageous zero-voltage switching (ZVS) feature on power switches. Moreover, a prototype circuit is designed and carried out to provide a 165 W (235 V/0.7 A)-rated LED street-light lamp with a utility-line voltage of 110 V. Satisfyingly experimental results have demonstrated that high power factor, low utility-line current total-harmonic-distortion (THD), and high circuit efficiency are achieved in the presented cost-effective LED driver suitable for energy-saving street-lighting applications.
