Assessment of the Prescribing Pattern of Antibiotic Among the Patients Visited Orthopedic Department of Tertiary Care Hospital of Larkana Sindh

The purpose of the current study is to determine the drug utilization pattern, mode, and frequency among the orthopedic patients.The study was carried at the Orthopedic Department of the Tertiary Care Hospital of Larkana, Sindh, and the study was carried out from the 1st April 2018 to 7th August 2018. The descriptive observational cross sectional study was carried out in the orthopedic ward and by retrospective review of hospital records of orthopedic patients. WHO well developed prescribing indicator was applied to gather data and informations on the demographic information of patients. The male number of patients was the 74.4 % and females were 26.6%, the most prescribed class of the antibiotic was B lactam (33.2%) and the least class prescribed was lincosamides (4.4%). It can be concluded from the current study that the orthopedic infection affects more to the males than the females and that a majority belonged to the age group of 51-60 years.
