CULTURAL CHALLENGES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ARABIC TILE AND THE ROAD TO EUROPE

This text is dedicated to investigation of the history of Arabic tile, how and when the craft appears in Europe. The first appearance began in the early middle ages, brought from Morocco, North Africa and the Middle East. The Arabs themselves where the first who brought Arabic tile in Granada, making one of the first works, in present-day Spain, the impressive Alhambra Palace. The article aims to show how tilework developed in different styles. Works could be found as a decorative model in Spain, Portugal, Holland, Italy, etc. The text examines and describes the importance of tile crafts in the world culture.
