This paper reports the results from a major study exploring users' information searching behavior on the EXCITE search engine. Three hundred and fifty-seven (357) EXCITE users responded to an interactive survey, including their search topics, intended query terms, EXCITE search frequency for information on their topic, the results of previous searching and demographic data. The results are supplemented by findings from the quantitative analysis of the 51,384 queries created by 18,114 EXCITE users. Results show that: (1) users tend to employ simple search strategies, and (2) users perform successive searches over time to find information related to a particular topic.
