BIOLOGY AND CONTROL OF ANOTHER IMPORTANT WEEDS OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC: CREEPING YELLOW-CRESS - RORIPPA SYLVESTRIS (L.) BESSER

BESSER Rorippa sylvestris occurs nearly in the whole area of the Czech Republic. Even though it prefers habitats with higher soil moisture, this species can act as a weed also in drier locations. This weed can spread both vegetatively and generatively, with vegetative way being more important Oil arable land. It infests mostly root clops and vegetables. In stands of these crops patch es of R. sylvestris can reduce the crop yield significantly. During the last years, the species has been spreading through arable fields due to reduced tillage and the increase of winter oilseed rape sowing area. R. sylvestris is relatively sensitive to commonly used herbicides but it regenerates easily after the application. Good efficacy can be obtained by using MCPA and 2.4-D and the majority of sulphonylureas. In oilseed rape, R. sylvestris can be hardly controlled by selective herbicides because of its perennial character and also its relationship with the crop.
