3D ultrasound in visualizing fetal cranial sutures and dontanels

In this study the significance of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound in visualizing fetal cranial sutures and fontanels was evaluated in 30 healthy pregnancies. Most (82-100%) cranial sutures and fontanels could be visualized, except for the sagittal suture (47%) and posterior fontanel (42%). Younger gestational age (20 weeks) was related to better visualization. 3D ultrasound is a useful tool in analysing fetal craniosynostosis.
