Volatile corrosion inhibitors based on ethanolamines

Adsorption on iron and the protective after-effect of some ethanolamines on ferrous and nonferrous metals was studied. It was demonstrated that N,N-diethylaminoethanol, the most volatile and effective ethanolamine, forms a polymolecular film at high plp(s) (in vacuo or in air). However, even if a monolayer is formed, it substantially decreases the maximum adsorption of water. The effect of the chemical structure of volatile corrosion inhibitors of this type on the desorption kinetics and protective after-effect of adsorption films formed on the metal surface in the air atmosphere was analyzed. IFKhAN-111, a new VCI composition based on N,N-diethylaminoethanol, was proposed. This inhibitor effectively protects ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
