This paper reviews the dependencies between the node-level architecture, the wavelength selective switches, the Intl ip le xer/d e mu It ip le xers, and the transceivers within advanced reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing networks supporting colorless, directionless and contentionless multiplexing/demultiplexing.
