Make your network/node smarter

The rapid growth in high-speed networks and mobile data services has resulted in development of intelligent and smarter networks. With the advent of sophisticated mobile networks, VOIP switches, ATM and Optical networks etc., the use of elegant network management tools has become inevitable and a strong need of efficient management of the system has raised. The importance of manageability and ease to install and maintain a network or node is now well established. The smarter nodes and networks must be easily installable, manageable/maintainable and configurable. This paper addresses an approach to make your network or node smarter by adding an SNMP Agent and a Command Line Interface (CLI) to your node. The paper also proposes the architecture of CLI and SNMP Agent development toolkits. The proposed approaches were implemented for developing SNMP and CLI agents for DSL (Digital Subscriber Line). card equipment and the considered platform was OSE. The result was a substantial reduction in time of development and the associated cost.
