On an exponential sum related to the Diffie-Hellman cryptosystem

We provide nontrivial estimates on certain Diffe-Hellman exponential sums of the form Sigma(0 <= x <= p)e(p)(ag(x)+ bg(x2)). The method is based on the authors' earlier work on Mordell-type sums.
