摘要
Based on previous debates and research in the field, we propose a model of academic leadership based on university goals and mission, evolution of educational market and its relationship with labour market, legislative framework, continuous changes in the leaders profile and personal development of the leaders. The proposed model of academic leadership is based on the interdependence of three major objectives: correlation of university curricula with the international labour market needs and requirements, ensuring the continuous flux of students with real potential in the field of study, providing qualitative teaching and learning services. The principal dimensions relative to the strategic objectives are: to increase research contracts and collaborations with research centres and business environment, to apply innovative tools and instruments to attract students, to stimulate and promote valuable international academic staff. The essential elements for interdependence of strategic objectives relate to the quality of teaching process that will support and bring added value to the academic leadership. The legislative framework could stimulate this process but its various interpretation and weak enforcement could bring negative effects on the organizational performance. The conclusions of the study are that academic leadership is based on the strong support and commitment of the academic community who share the similar values and principles. The academic responsibility and shared vision of all management levels combined with personal development training could stimulate the positive effects and bring mutual benefits for academic community.
