Water supply - Wastewater management using GIS. Case study: City of Volos

The paper refers to the development of an application of a complex utility networks in urban areas and more specific in medium-size cities, in Greece through a specific case study: city of Volos (population approximately 120.000 inhabitants, 2001). The specific application is a part of the research activities of the Laboratory of Computer Applications in Spatial Panning, Department of Planning and Regional Development, University of Thessaly, Volos, Greece. The paper focus on the description of the application concerning the organization and manipulation of a utility network in accordance with the relevant data such as: network characteristics, population, land uses, etc. The development of the specific utility networks is based in real data and responds to the actual needs of the city aroused by the urban development process.
