Three species of aquatic hyphomycetes as new root endophytes of temperate forest plants

Several forest plant roots were surveyed for the occurrence of aquatic hyphomycetes as root endophytes in the wet and ravine area of Nainital, Kumaun Himalaya. Collected root pieces of healthy plants were processed in the lab and isolation of conidial aquatic fungi were made using standard techniques. A number of conidial forms were recovered with their new host records. Three species viz., Camposporium pellucidum, Diplocladiella scalaroides and Helicomyces roseus were found for the first time as root endophyte colonizing the roots of Strobilanthes. species, Quercus floribunda, Acer pictum and Geranium nepalense.
