Rodin in the Light of Rembrandt or "Of What is Rembrandt the Name?"

Rodin frequently makes spoken references to Rembrandt, as do commentators of Rodin's work. Objectively, Rodin looks at Rembrandt, sometimes copies him and seeks to unravel certain of the Dutch master's secrets. But these references and the identification with the painter of the Syndics are encompassed in a discourse whose historiographical perspectives this article seeks to decipher.
