Structural properties of GdSr2RuCU2O8 under strong compression

The crystal structure of hybrid ruthenocuprate superconductor GdSr2RuCu2O8 has been investigated up to 32 GPa using a diamond anvil cell (DAC) and synchrotron x-rays in the angle dispersive geometry. The tetragonal structure is found to be stable and no structural anomalies were found up to the experimental limit. The bulk modulus obtained by fitting the PV data with Birch-Murnaghan equation yielded B-0 = 147 (4) GPa with B-0' = 8.5. This value is higher than the one reported for the isostructural Y-123 compound and may be the result of partial replacement of rigid Ru-O-2 layers for Cu-O-2 layers.
