INTERDISCIPLINARITY IN ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION: THE ROMANIAN HIGHER EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

This work aims at highlighting the difficulties of a precise definition of the term interdisciplinarity, and the overlapping with other terms, in order to explain the easiness of using the appropriate understandings of the concept, and the understanding of the way in which the concept has led to the development of economics and higher education. An important aspect of the paper is the illustration of these developments in the evolution of economics and higher education system in Romania. The conclusions of this study are consistent with studies developed internationally and reflect the way in which the economic higher education in Romania is trying to answer the need for interdisciplinarity, under the pressures coming from the internal and external environment. Both on the programs of study and on the research level - two fundamental components of the university education - the overlap of theoretical understanding are inevitable and difficult to overcome.
