On the Way to Understanding: Formation in the CIA Perception of Decolonization in South-East Asia

The complex process of the collapse of colonial empires after World War II and the coincidental Cold War required the United States of America to develop conceptual solutions regarding relations with newly independent states and European allies. Under these conditions, the understanding of exploration of the processes taking place in the world is especially interesting. An analysis of one of the first large American intelligence reports showed that the CIA was gradually developing an understanding of the need to abandon F. Roosevelt's liberal rhetoric and the idea of the possibility for the United States to replace the weakening colonial powers until the Soviet Union did.
