Progesterone receptor values in human papillomavirus infection and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia

To evaluate progesterone receptor levels in precancerous cervix lesions we measured cytosol progesterone receptors in 45 patients and 10 normal women. The average age at diagnosis was 35.4 years (17-67 years). Measurements were made using a dextran-coated charcoal technique involving a seven point Scratchard's plot analysis. 40 pre-menopausal and five post-menopausal women with dysplastic tissue were analysed. There were correlations between progesterone receptor levels, histopathological category, grade and menopausal stage.
