Corporal Punishment and Anxiety among School-going Adolescents

The aim of this study was to document corporal punishment among school-going adolescents and relational anxiety. A sample of 200 adolescents aged 12-16 years were selected from various government-run senior secondary schools in Ludhiana, Punjab. Data was collected using a Personal Information Sheet, a self-structured Interview Schedule relating to Corporal Punishment and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The study revealed that 81% adolescents experienced corporal punishment at school, of which 9.50% were severely punished. Boys experienced a higher degree of severe punishment and injuries compared to girls. A positive correlation has also been found of corporal punishment with anxiety among adolescents.
