Solar wind discontinuities and their interaction with the bow shock

The changes of propagation of interplanetary (IP) shocks through the solar wind and magenetosheath are discussed. An interaction of interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) tangential discontinuities with the bow shock and properties of resulting hot flow anomalies (HFAs), and propagation of IP shocks through the solar wind, their interaction with the bow shock and modification of their parameters in the magenetosheath are analyzed to get a distinct pattern of IP shocks of the solar wind. Computed ion flow parameters were used to analyze the relationship between the ion flow inside HFA cavities and orientations of an IMF tangential discontinuity. Spacecraft's observations were also used to detect a motion and gradual evolution of solar wind structures. The observations of the shock passage through the solar wind indicate that the shock patterns are similar at different locations. The analysis of propagation of these shocks through the magenetosheath shows that IP shocks slightly decelerate.
