摘要：

Energy security and energy availability are crucial for the sustainable development of technology in contemporary society. Naturally, these issues are the focus of attention of politicians, diplomats, scientists, and technologists. These days, when the finitude of hydrocarbon energy sources is becoming more and more obvious, the role of renewable sources increases. Biofuels are already starting to compete with fossil fuels. The chemical aspects of biofuel production were discussed at a RAS Presidium meeting. Below is a paper delivered and discussed at this meeting.
