摘要
The results of a case control study - known as the KiKK (childhood cancer in the proximity of nuclear power plants) study - performed by the German Childhood Cancer Registry support previous observations that in children below the age of 5 years, the incidence of leukemias is elevated in the 5-km area surrounding nuclear plants. The Environmental Commission of the German Academy of Pediatrics (Deutsche Akademie fur Kinder- und Jugendmedizin, DAKJ) has summarized the existing literature and the core results of the KiKK study Integral statements by an external group of experts and by a Commission on Radiological Protection instituted by the German Environmental Minister, as well as the results from a consultation of experts by the DAKJ commission, are cited Aspects of radiation biology, epidemiological methods applied in the KiKK study, the quality of supervision of nuclear plants in Germany, and necessary further investigations are discussed.
