Non-coherent DIAL range performance with non-Gaussian noise

摘要
The idealized performance of a direct-detection Differential Absorption Lidar (DIAL) with an atmospheric backscatter reference has been previously formulated using a radar range equation for meterological echoes. Performance of several systems is described here under the assumptions of nongaussian speckle and log-normal atmospheric differential backscatter noise. Performance evaluations are presented in detail for a NO2 detection system. Discussions on the preferred wavelengths for candidate gases, and a review of a new laser radar DIAL performance equation are presented.
