摘要：

The article shows that the foundations of modern building and design are rooted in central ideas of rhetorics such as clarity, functionality, and order. In contrast to the protagonists and followers of the Bauhaus, representatives of Viennese Modernism refer to the tradition of a rhetorically founded architectural theory since antiquity, as is explained in contributions by Adolf Loos, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Josef Frank and Emil Kaufmann.
