Eco-environmental water demand in Hebei Province, China

Eco-environmental water demand referrers to the total water consumption that we need to restrain the worsen tendency of eco-environment and improve its quality gradually. Hebei Plain belongs to the serious shortage region, the shortage of-water resources has become the main factor impacting and restricting sustainable development of economy, society and environment. On the basis of assuring eco-environmental water demand, we should reasonably make out and ensure water demand for society and economy in 21(st). This article estimated eco-environmental water demand for recent and future goals in Hebei Plain. Results showed that eco-environmental water demand is 59.61 x 10(8) m(3), 60.15 x 10(8) m(3) respectively in 2010 and 2020, it can provide scientific basis for sustainable utilisation of water resources and sustainable development of economy and society in Hebei Province.
