The occasional observer: College athletics, a dollar auction game

Management science has proved to be useful in solving many managerial problems, Too often we forget that our job is to produce insight and not just numbers. In this column, I examine issues in our world that range from insignificant to important from the perspective of our methods and models. I use numbers only when they add to insight, but mainly I use our models to offer a different perspective on some of the issues of our day.
