Modalities for private sector participation in irrigation projects

Financial input for all sectors of development is very much necessary and there is huge demand specially for infrastructure. Water resource project is not only one of the important sector of the development but is a basic need and hence needs to be placed above all, The investment in water resource project so far had mostly been by the Government and the private investment has not been there because of its low return. In order to attract private participation the projects need to be made remunerative. In fact such opportunities are not available in a straightforward fashion and hence modalities need to be evolved for this purpose. Different stages and different types of opportunities have been described in the paper indicating that there should be a shift in government spending at all the stages and pose them for participation through all the modes of financing available within as well as outside the country.
