Network Neutral Control over Quality of Service Networks

IEEE 1394 (Fire Wire) and Ethernet Audio/Video Bridging are two standards-based networking technologies that allow for the transport of synchronized, low-latency, real-time audio and video data. Each networking technology has its own methods and techniques for establishing connection streams between devices residing on the networks. This paper introduces these two significant networking technologies and describes how interoperability between the two technologies has been achieved via an audio gateway. A common control protocol, XFN, is introduced. The paper describes how XFN can be used to control the parameters of these disparate networks via a graphic patchbay application.
