In wireless sensor network, every node's energy is limited, so how to reduce energy consumption is an important issue to be considered in wireless sensor network routing. This paper proposes a routing protocol for the applications of Wireless Sensor Network. It is a protocol based on the PEGASIS protocol but uses an improved distance threshold algorithm while constructing the chain with the greedy algorithm. PEGASIS is a typical low energy consumption routing protocol for wireless sensor network, but the chain building mechanism based on the greedy algorithm may also cause some defects. This paper suggests an improved algorithm to solve these problems. During the chain building process, we use a distance threshold to prevent the algorithm from choosing too long distance values between the neighbor nodes. Compared with the original PEGASIS, the improved protocol can build a better chain. Simulation results have shown that the proposed protocol significantly prolongs the network lifetime.
