A treatment matching model for substance abuse rehabilitation clients

Rehabilitation clients enter treatment for alcohol and other drug abuse at various stages of readiness to change. Some clients are well aware of their problems and claim they are ready to work on them. Others do not even agree that they have problems, feel coerced to enter treatment, and do not see the need for change. It is important that treatment should be congruent with clients' readiness for change. This article describes a substance abuse treatment matching model based on the Prochaska and DiClemente's Stages of Change theory (Prochaska & DiClemente, 1982).
