摘要
No one reject the thesis that character education is as important as the goal of education itself. However it is not all people have the same thought over it's relationship with religion. In Islamic doctrine, even the so called moral education becomes the main order of Islam. However, it is practically seldom outside Islamic school in emphasizing it's root within religion. The character education ideally must be drawn into a more transcendental awareness, as an obligation inherent in religious teachings. The role of schools as a space for the reproduction of values also must be capitalized to reproduce Islamic morality called akhlaq. Departing from that statement, this research was conducted by using literature study method. To do so, the analysis is run qualitatively by exploring the literature on character education in Islam and the central role of school to develop it effectively. To conclude, the research results in two expositions. First what is called character education is in line with the obligation to build akhlaq in Islamic teaching. It is important to emphasize the character education on Islamic value. Thus, character education gets a stronger acceptance because it is the foundation of Islam itself. The second, schools must be an integral part of the process of strengthening morality as a form of character education originating from Islamic values.
