Consecutive bone scintigraphy in bilateral hip migratory transient osteoporosis

A 34-year-old male was seen with severe right hip pain, rapidly worsening in 1 to 2 weeks, with no history of trauma. There was no fever and laboratory studies were normal. Bone scan showed markedly increased uptake in the femoral head. Magnetic resonance imaging showed bone marrow edema. The patient became asymptomatic with conservative therapy, confirmed by returning toward normal on bone scintigraphy 5 months later. He was readmitted 4 months later because the patient developed similar symptoms on the opposite side. A bone scan showed demineralization of the left femoral head.
