摘要
Results of simulations of traveling-wave convection in a binary fluid mixture with a laterally imposed weak through flow are presented. Two-dimensional basic hydrodynamic field equations with nonperiodic inlet/outlet boundary conditions were solved numerically for a channel with an intermediate aspect ratio. It is demonstrated that a rich variety of steady and transient dynamical behavior can be produced in this system, Depending on the value of the heat driving r (the reduced Rayleigh number), these convective patterns may consist of repeated evolution in which linear waves initially grow out of a conductive state in the upstream region, then lose stability and collapse back to the quiescent state close to the inlet, while becoming nonlinear traveling waves downstream, or they may consist of a time- independent coexisting linear and nonlinear convective state. An interesting wavenumber selection mechanism which appears to be closely related to the stability of different types of nonlinear traveling waves, is also observed.
