Urban planning and urban design to strengthen the urban fabric of amenities: The Southern District of Granada

In the current context, the urban production of what is public is key to spatial and social cohesion. From both urban planning and urban design perspectives, criteria and tools are necessary for the best conformation of the urban fabric of amenities in the city, assessing its qualities, requirements and local responsibilities. Starting from the multiple dimensions of urban facilities and public spaces, their consolidation in the Southern District of Granada is analyzed, through interpretation of municipal plans and comparative observation of the urban implementation of two sports centers. The need to address the project of the space in connection to the urban facility, its urban relations of proximity between public and private spheres, and to ensure an urban planning that enables appropriation and integrates urban facility and its associated space into the urban fabric of neighborhood scale.
