摘要
A device which use a symmetrical plane-sphere-plane contact was built and used to measure the contact damping in a sphere-plane contact excited by a normal load. A set of experiments on the free vibration response showed that the contact damping can be reasonably described by a viscous damping. For dry contacts, the total damping is mainly due to the internal damping. For lubricated contacts, a fluid-pumping mechanism can add a noticeable amount of damping.
