摘要
Due to the unique properties of NiTi alloys, retaining the base metal (BM) properties in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) is of great importance during welding. Therefore, the welding of these alloys should be designated in a way that the obtained joint experiences the slightest deviation from the BM's properties. The present study focused on microstructural evolution and mechanical properties in the HAZ of superelastic NiTi wires joined by laser beam welding. Microstructural investigations revealed that grain growth occurs in the HAZ due to the heat generated during welding. Also, austenitic NiTi (B2) decomposes to B19' martensitic structure with Ni4Ti3 precipitates in this zone. These precipitates were identified using EDS, EBSD, and TEM. Studying the superelastic behavior by nanoindentation test disclosed that the microstructural changes result in softening and degradation in superelastic behavior of HAZ.
