A study on combustion structure of premixed compression ignition diesel engines

The author et al. propose a new system named UNIBUS (Uniform Bulky combustion System) which falls in the category of systems for diesel engine combustion with the premixed compression ignition In this paper, the mixture formation process in entrainment of high temperature air inside the spray is discussed and a mixture formation in the premixed compression ignition combustion system. And the features of chemical reactions that occur due to the temperature variation over time such as from low temperature oxidation to high temperature oxidation have been determined by analyzing the combustion images and the heat release patterns. The chemical reaction depending on pressure has been also discussed. Furthermore, experiments have been conducted on thermal fuel cracking and formation of chemical species by means of a reactor tower capable of varying the temperature in the range from room temperature to 1000degreesC. The test results have been compared with the combustion characteristics. The formation of chemical species during the ignition delay of mixture in the engine has been deduced from these results. Finally the desirable combustion structure for the premixed compression ignition is also discussed in the points of the energy conversion process and the thermal equilibrium condition.
