PRE-HISPANIC COMMUNICATION ROUTES AND GEOPOLITICS IN THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN CHIAPAS, MEXICO

This article focuses on the reconstruction of the communication routes that passed through northern Chiapas during the Classic period. This area is one of the least studied. The result is illustrated through a map of optimal routes, published for the first time, prepared with the help of GIS. The reconstructed routes are also discussed in the article as determinants for the configuration of the local geopolitics prevailing at that time. The article has the additional merit of bringing together all the existing information that had been scattered about archaeological sites in this study area.
