Paediatric results of a surveillance study evaluating adverse effects of antiepileptic drugs

This observational, cross-sectional, non-interventional study explored the incidence and type of adverse effects (AEs) in patients with epilepsy treated with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), using a standardised AE questionnaire. In the paediatric subpopulation (4-<16 years; N=255), 63.9% reported >= 1 AE. Fewer children on newer AEDs reported >= 1 AE than those on older AEDs (OR 0.43; 95% CI 0.20-0.94; P=0.035). Treatment modification occurred for 21.2% at study visit and was more likely in children reporting AEs and those with seizure(s) in the past year.
