Grammar of Catalan in the Valencian Country. Carles Salvador and the production of a Valencian school grammar

This work describes the production process of the first school grammars for the teaching of Catalan-Valencian in the schools of the Valencian Country from an approach that pays attention to the context and the reception, during the period 1894-1951. With the precedent of some failed attempts of grammarization among which the Gramatica valenciana of Ortin (1918) stands out, which did not reach the schools because the use of the Valencian language was not introduced in them, we emphasize the decisive pedagogical and grammatical contribution of the teacher Carles Salvador (1893-1955) who will defend the introduction of the Valencian language in the teaching and the literacy of the society through grammars and courses. In the context of the Second Republic, with the orthographic agreement of the 1932 Normes de Castello, which converged with the Catalan ones of the 1913 Institute of Catalan Studies, Carles Salvador published the Vocabulari Ortografic (1933) and Llicons de Gramatica (1934 and 1935), which could not be extended because the Civil War and the Dictatorship made it impossible to introduce Valencian in schools. The first and most widespread Valencian school grammar of the 20th century was published in 1951 and was also written by Carles Salvador, with the initial aim of being used in the grammar courses of the Valencian institution Lo Rat Penat.
