摘要
This paper presents a case study: a description of a problem and implemented solution for one of the world's largest car manufacturers. The presented optimization problem was very challenging, as it included elements of prediction, distribution, and transportation. The system was installed as a full production system in September 2002; it has been used since that time to recommend the best distribution of cars on a daily basis. The car manufacturer estimates that the system generates profits in excess of $200 million per year. This significant return on investment was possible only by combining prediction, optimization, and adaptation techniques into one integrated system.
