Measurement of ice drift motions an critical for planning hydrocarbon loading, materials supply, and ice breaking operations around export terminals in arctic offshore regions. Additionally, measured ice motions are needed for benchmarking ice dynamics models which can then be used for operational downtime predictions. This paper presents data and analysis of ice motions measured by an ARGOS buoy deployed in the Kara Sea in 1993. These data are, to the best of our knowledge, the only ice drift measurements available for this area. The information was of critical importance for studying development options of large gas condensate fields located on the Yamal Peninsula.
