Simultaneous Measurements of Thermal Diffusivity and Thermal Conductivity of Ceramic Coatings at High Temperature by Laser Flash Method

The reference diffusivimeter of LNE (Laboratoire National de Metrologie et d'Essais) has been set up in order to allow simultaneous measurements of thermal diffusivity and thermal effusivity of thick ceramic coatings at high temperature by front-face laser flash method. The validation of this method for thermal diffusivity measurement of coatings was previously performed [1]. It is here applied to the determination of thermal conductivity of Cr(2)O(3) coating by using the measured thermal diffusivity and thermal effusivity. The results were compared to thermal conductivity values determined by indirect method from thermal diffusivity, specific heat capacity and density. The thermal conductivity values measured by using both methods are in good agreement, with a relative deviation of less than 7%.
