摘要
Within the history of mentalities, items of clothing worn by women became signs of identity in daily life in the Spanish colonies. Dressing so as to demonstrate honesty and status was recurrent advice that women received from relatives already settled in the New World. Findings are showcased from an invaluable source: private letters.
