The Significance and Profile of Large and Medium-Sized Family Businesses in the Czech Republic

摘要
The role of family businesses in management theory is getting a topic of interest of academics and practitioners. This paper deals with the relative importance of family-controlled enterprises within the class of large and medium-sized businesses in the Czech Republic. It first explains the role of family businesses in the world; secondly it defines the conception of a family business applied in the paper. Then it presents the minimum share of family-controlled enterprises in the Czech Republic as regards turnover and employment. Further, the article analyses their headcount, turnover, legal forms, location, and industry activities. In conclusion the paper confirms the important role of this kind of businesses in the Czech Republic and states that their significance has been economically, politically and scholarly underestimated.
