(Chemical Presented) Summing up the situation: Eight-membered rings can be synthesized in an intramolecular formal [6+2] cycloaddition of alkynylcycloheptatrienes catalyzed by PtCl2 (see scheme). The use of heteroatom-tethered substrates provide complex heterocyclic compounds, while the use of a higher temperature leads to an unusual formal [6+1] cycloaddition. © 2008 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
